2. Visual Inspection + Multimeter
Because the H61MXE is a simple board, you can deduce the front panel header by looking for printing on the PCB itself. Foxconn often silkscreens tiny labels like "PWR_SW" and "HDD_LED" directly next to the pins. Use a magnifying glass. For the CMOS jumper, look for "CLR_CMOS" printed in white text. 1 x VGA (D-Sub) & 1 x HDMI (on some variants like -V or -S)
- Unpack the motherboard and all the accessories from the box.
- Remove the protective covering from the CPU socket.
- Apply a thin layer of thermal paste to the CPU die (the top surface of the CPU).
- Carefully insert the CPU into the socket and secure it with the socket lever.
- Install the CPU cooler according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Connect the front panel headers, fan headers, and power connectors to the motherboard.
