If you’ve just purchased Toontrack’s EZdrummer 3, you’re likely eager to start crafting professional-quality drum tracks. However, many new users—especially those on macOS—find the installation process slightly confusing because it involves two separate components: the plugin (the software instrument) and the Core Library (the actual sound samples).

DAW Scan: Most DAWs (Logic Pro, Pro Tools, etc.) will automatically scan for the new VST3 or AU plugin on the next launch. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities)

Step 3: Install the EZdrummer 3 Plugin

While the library is downloading, you can install the plugin software.

  • Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities).
  • Type: ln -s /Volumes/YourExternalDrive/Toontrack/EZdrummer\ 3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Toontrack/
  • Note: This tells your Mac, “Pretend the library is in the default location, but actually read it from my external drive.”
  • Total size: ~6.8–7.2 GB.
  • Note: That is the root Macintosh HD Library, NOT your user (~) library.
