Icom M700 Mods ((better))
The Icom IC-M700 is a classic marine HF transceiver that can be modified into a highly capable ham radio rig
The Schematic Hack: Bypassing the De-Emphasis Network
The receiver uses a de-emphasis circuit (a simple RC filter) that kills treble. By changing a few capacitor values, you can get a much flatter, more pleasant audio response. icom m700 mods
- Mod: Add a 50–100 ohm, 5W resistor in series with the fan’s positive lead.
- Better mod: Install a temperature-controlled fan switch (e.g., using a 50°C thermal switch attached to the final heatsink).
RFI & Noise Reduction: External kits, such as the Palomar Engineers RFI Kit, use ferrite chokes on the DC power and antenna lines to reduce the noise floor and suppress interference. Reference Resources The Icom IC-M700 is a classic marine HF
