The Plot: A Comedy of Errors with a Soul

Laapataa Ladies begins with a simple, chaotic premise. Two young brides—the naive and bubbly Phool (Nitanshi Goel) and the sharp, ambitious Jaya (Pratibha Ranta)—are traveling on a crowded train to their husbands' homes after their collective wedding. In a hilarious mix-up, Phool (whose face is covered by her bridal veil ghoonghat) gets off at the wrong station, leaving behind a bewildered Jaya with Phool’s oblivious husband, Deepak (Sparsh Shrivastava).

Directed by Kiran Rao, the 2024 film Laapataa Ladies follows two young brides in 2001 rural India who are accidentally swapped during a train journey.
