Achieving Academic Excellence: The NYU CAS Dean's List
The NYU College of Arts and Science (CAS) Dean’s Honors List is compiled annually in June, recognizing students with at least 28 graded credits and a 3.65 GPA or higher for the academic year. To qualify, students must have no incomplete or no-grade marks on their record. For full policy details, visit NYU Bulletins NYU Bulletins Honors and Awards - NYU Bulletins nyu cas deans list upd
Transcript Notation: The honor appears under the Spring semester section of the transcript as "Academic Honors: Dean's List". Achieving Academic Excellence: The NYU CAS Dean's List
- Resume Padding: It creates a pattern of excellence. One semester on the list is good; four consecutive semesters demonstrates sustained discipline.
- Latin Honors Pipeline: The GPA required for Dean's List (3.75+) is significantly higher than the GPA required for Cum Laude (approx. 3.6+) upon graduation. Therefore, regular Dean's List students are essentially on track to graduate with Latin Honors (Cum Laude, Magna, or Summa), which holds significantly more weight on a diploma than the Dean's List notation.
- Be a full-time student: You must be enrolled in at least 12 credits for the semester.
- Meet the GPA requirement: You must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher for the semester.
- Complete all courses: You must complete all courses attempted for the semester, with no incomplete or withdrawal grades (except for withdrawals due to medical or academic reasons).
Unlike some other NYU schools, CAS typically does not send official notification emails for the Dean's List. Resume Padding: It creates a pattern of excellence
For NYU-Specific Scholarships
- Presidential Honors Scholars must maintain Dean’s List standing to renew funding.
- CAS Dean’s Scholarship recipients are reviewed annually based on Dean’s List status.
