The original v1.0 (USA) release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

While later revisions (1.1 and 1.2) were introduced to fix bugs and address religious sensitivities, version 1.0 remains the definitive "unfiltered" experience for speedrunners and historians. Ocarina Of Time Rom Download 1.0

The Iconic Differences in 1.0

  1. The Original Fire Temple Chant: In Version 1.0, the Fire Temple background music features a looping sample of a male voice chanting an Islamic adhan (call to prayer). After complaints from Muslim groups, Nintendo removed the sample in Version 1.2, replacing it with a synthesized groan. Version 1.0 is the only way to hear the original, controversial track legally in ROM form.
  2. Gerudo Symbol (The Moon and Star): Early versions of the game featured a crescent moon and star on the Mirror Shield and the curtain of the tent where you rescue the carpenters. This symbol was altered in later versions to a different design to avoid religious or cultural connotations.
  3. Ganon’s Blood: In Version 1.0, when you strike the final blow against Ganon, he spurts red blood. In later versions (on the GameCube and Virtual Console), the blood was recolored green to maintain a lower age rating. For many, the red blood adds a visceral weight to the finale.
  4. Exploitable Glitches: Version 1.0 is a speedrunner’s paradise. Famous glitches like the Bottle Adventure (using a bottle to load arbitrary code) and Wrong Warping (exiting a door to end up in a completely different dungeon) exist only in their most powerful forms in 1.0. Later versions patched these out.

The 1.0 ROM of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the original NTSC release from 1998. It is highly sought after by speedrunners and historians because it contains original content and glitches that were removed or changed in later revisions (1.1 and 1.2).
