- Model answer: The energy absorbed during that time is used to break the bonds between particles to change the state from solid (ice) to liquid (water), not to increase kinetic energy (temperature).
Pitfall 1: Confusing "Cause" and "Effect"
- Example: "Pollution causes acid rain." (This is actually reversed: Burning fossil fuels causes pollution which causes acid rain.)
- Fix: Use "chain of events" arrows. Draw: Action → Result → Final Effect.
