20 Fixed — Stihl Diagnostic Software
Unlocking the Beast: Why STIHL Diagnostic Software 2.0 (Fixed) is a Game Changer for M-Tronic Owners
Let’s be honest: modern chainsaws aren’t your grandfather’s two-strokes. With the advent of STIHL’s M-Tronic (and now the updated M-Tronic 2.0 and 3.0), we traded carburetor screwdrivers for laptops.
Connectivity: The MDG1 tool connects to the machine's diagnostic port and communicates with a PC via Bluetooth or USB. stihl diagnostic software 20 fixed
- Operating System: Optimized for Windows 10 (64-bit); legacy support for Windows 7 is present but deprecated.
- Hardware Interface: Requires the official STIHL Diagnostic Connector (SDC) or compatible serial-to-USB interface cables.
- Connectivity: USB 2.0 minimum; Bluetooth connectivity is available on newer SDC hardware revisions.
- Database: Requires a local instance of the STIHL parts and service database to correlate fault codes with repair procedures.

Firmware Updates: You can flash the latest operating software to the tool's ECU to improve performance or fix known bugs. Operating System: Optimized for Windows 10 (64-bit); legacy
- Connect: Attach the interface cable to the saw’s 3-pin port (near the flywheel). Connect USB to your Windows laptop.
- Launch: Open SDS 2.0. Select “MS 500i” from the model tree.
- Read Errors: Click “Diagnosis” > “Read Fault Memory.” If you see fault 117 (Fuel pressure plausibility), you know it’s not the software—it’s the injector.
- The “Fixed” Reset: Go to “Special Functions” > “Reset Adaptive Values.” This is the “fix” for rough running after changing fuel types.
- Actuator Test: Click “Injector Test.” You should hear a rhythmic click. If you don’t, the ECU driver is fried.
- Firmware Flash: If the software prompts “Firmware Update Available,” do not interrupt power. A “fixed” stable driver will complete this without the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).
: SDS 2.0 is significantly more stable during firmware updates. Previous versions occasionally "bricked" electronic modules (E-modules) if a connection was lost; version 2.0 is designed to be more resilient and can even recover modules that failed under older software. Enhanced Connectivity
